A.J. Fikry thinks he's hit rock-bottom until his nest egg in the form of a rare book is stolen. For better or worse, this sets off a series of events that shapes the rest of his life.
What I Liked:
I enjoy reading about people that love books as much as I do. It was nice to see the host of characters all come together over books and A.J. Fikry’s shop.
What Bothered Me:
While the overall tone was uplifting, there were a few quite sad moments. I almost cried when I realized what the personal notes and short story recommendations were at the start of each chapter.
Overall:
Anyone that has ever loved spending time in a small independent bookstore will be able to appreciate this book. I think I would have appreciated it even more if I were more well-read when it came to the short stories mentioned and fully understood all of the literary references. Alas, I’m an Engineer and was not a Lit major.
