When Tara meets the star quarterback, Mick, at an event she's planning, there's instant attraction on both sides. Based on where she's at in her life, Tara assumes it was a one night thing, so she's surprised when this seemingly perfect guy manages to track her down and pursues her relentlessly.

What I Liked:
In the genre of sports romance, there are stories about athletes that mention very little about the sport they play and then there are stories that are full of sports references, statistics, and specific terminology. The Perfect Play falls into the latter and you can tell that Jaci Burton is a huge football fan. The other thing that I appreciated was the overall message that even if people make mistakes as teenagers they can still turn things around and make the most out of their lives.

What Bothered Me:
I would have liked Mick to be slightly more emotionally aware. It hit me as odd when he questioned what he wanted out of a relationship with Tara after he had pursued her so relentlessly. Also, the story had quite a few more spicy scenes than I usually prefer. There is still a strong plot, but a ton of spice throughout.

Overall:
If you are a huge football fan and love stories with a ton of spice, you should check out The Perfect Play. It is also a single-parent romance, but the child is a teenager, which isn’t quite as common for the trope. The Play-by-Play collection features MMCs playing a mix of sports such as football, baseball, and hockey.
