Alessia has just escaped from two terrible situations when she starts to clean for Maxim, the newly named Earl grieving for his older brother. It doesn't take Maxim long to realize Alessia is more than she seems, so when trouble follows her, he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
What I Liked:
I liked the concept of the modern Cinderella plot with dark themes instead of an evil step-family.
What Bothered Me:
I didn’t get engaged with the story and it felt way too long to me. Part of the problem may have been that obstacles to their relationship were all external and the characters didn’t need to overcome many internal struggles. Maybe that’s supposed to come in the second book.
Overall:
If you like E.L. James and the idea of a modern Cinderella story, you may enjoy the Mister. It wasn’t my thing and I don’t plan to read the second. I’m thankful that The Mister ends on a positive note and not with a huge cliffhanger.
