Grace moves to London as the country prepares for war. She gets a position at a bookshop despite not being a reader and a handsome stranger finally gives her motivation she needs to give books a try as he goes off to war. Books and the shop transform her life and those around her as the city is exposed to the atrocities of war.

What I Liked:
I like almost any story that is full of book lovers and The Last Bookshop in London fits that bill. I appreciated the fine balance the author found with providing enough detail to elicit an emotional response about the horrors of what it was like to be in London during WWII without being overly gory.

What Bothered Me:
This is more a problem with my library app than the book itself, but The Last Bookshop in London was included in a search I did under the Romance genre. While there are romance threads, it should be firmly considered a historical fiction, because there are only a couple of scenes with Grace’s love interest.

Overall:
If you are interested in WWII and enjoy historical fiction, I would easily recommend The Last Bookshop in London. While the characters do go through some dark times, the overall story is uplifting and highlights the power of books.
