What I Liked:
There are a lot of really good plot elements that I love seeing in a paranormal romance story. I loved the concept of including regular excerpts from “historical” records to provide more world context.
What I Didn’t Really Like:
Some of the dialogue didn’t quite come off as natural to me. It’s also not my favorite when harm comes to children unless it is absolutely necessary to the story. The species in the book are at war so lots of people get hurt and killed, but I’m not sure it would have completely changed the story to keep the kids alive.
Overall:
This book has a strong paranormal romance plot. It takes what I love from the genre and gives it a new twist. I’m going to wait to make a decision on whether to continue with the series. I want to see what happens to the characters that were introduced and have some world building questions about Etherya’s Earth that might get answered in subsequent installments, but I had a little trouble getting through this one. If you like new takes on vampire romance, this is worth a shot.
