Lady Augusta is an old maid in high society and in need of distraction for her grieving twin sister agrees to help rescue a woman from the machinations of her husband. Nothing goes according to plan and they end up roping a highwayman into there scheme who turns out to be a true gentleman and makes a lasting impression on Lady Augusta.

What I Liked:
Lady Augusta Colebrook is not a naïve, helpless damsel that waits around for a man to solve her problems. She recognizes that men fequently ARE the problem and finds away to work around them.

What Bothered Me:
There is one rather graphic scene describing a double mastectomy at the time that is not exactly pleasant to read, but likely historically accurate.

Overall:
Check out The Benevolent Society of Ill-Mannered Ladies if you enjoy regency era historical romance and mysteries. Just note that this is not your typical regency romance in that it highlights many of the darker sides of society at the time and abuses of power. Also, it is the first book of a series and does not end on an HEA but more of a cliffhanger and the next book hasn’t been released yet.
