Elsie is thrown in jail as an unregistered spellbreaker, but Bacchus saves the day with a couple of lies including that they are engaged to be married. They explore the reality of their relationship while they work with their friends to stop a murderer and their malicious plans.

What I Liked:
I am in love with this concept. It’s all the subtle romance of Jane Austin made fantastical with the addition of magic. The author throws in just enough historical references like novel readers, details about corsets, etc., that it makes it so easy to believe the world could have existed.

What I Didn’t Really Like:
The only point that I felt was slightly unresolved was Elsie’s spellbreaking abilities. Were her abilities actually unusually strong or was she just really good considering she never had formal training?

Overall:
I think I may have liked this book even better than the first. If you like historical romance and fantasy and don’t mind the lack of steam, you should definitely read this book.
