Heat Rating:
Isla is an anomaly. She is a Wildling ruler born without powers. It's a closely held secret and she's been trained since birth to compete in the Centennial games on Lightlark as her one shot of saving her lands that are dying due to her inability to inject her power into the surroundings. She has a plan. It should be simple, but nothing is as it seems.

What I Liked:
I finished Lightlark pretty quickly because the plot is full of action. The single POV of Isla keeps the suspense level high as she and the reader have to guess at the motivations of the other characters. The plot twists in the end caught me by surprise, but looking back I should have seen the signs.

Fair Warning:
There is not a single clear love interest for Isla and there are some epic betrayals.

Overall:
I really enjoyed Lightlark as a YA fantasy. In many ways, it reminded me of Caraval with all of the lies and manipulations as rivals try to best one another to win the game making it near impossible to tell what’s real.
