Byrce is a half-fae looking for the next party until her best friends are murdered by demons. When a similar murder occurs two years later, she is recruited to help Hunt, an enslaved angel assassin, investigate and try to put together the connections between demon attacks, a missing relic, and a designer street drug.

What I Liked:
The murder mystery backbone in House of Earth and Blood really pulled me in and made me want to keep reading to figure out what happened to Bryce’s best friends. I loved the slow burn elements as the relationship develops between Bryce and Hunt and was laughing out loud every time a hot moment would get interrupted. I thought the world building was very impressive and all the details that were sprinkled throughout were pulled together at the end without it ever having felt like a data dump to establish the background.

What Bothered Me:
The multiple twists at the end threw me for a loop. In the moment, it was uncomfortable but now that I’ve finished, I can appreciate the journey.

Overall:
If you’re ready for a different twist on romantic fantasy and enjoy murder mysteries and urban settings, check out House of Earth and Blood. Just be prepared for 804 pages and that the series is not yet finished. It’s also best to read A Court of Thorns and Roses series first to prevent any spoilers.
