After Tempest's family died the last place she thought she would ever go is back to the coven her mother and grandmother ran away from before she was born. Now it's the only place that might have the answers she seeks. She only hopes they don't murder her before she can find them.

What I Liked:
First Ritual was just what I needed to pull myself out of a bit of reading slump. It immediately caught my attention with the two main characters, Tempest and Wild, reluctantly pulled together by unseen forces. I also love that Wild is part of a tight knit group of four guys that would do anything for one another. The antics of the group of four plus Tempest’s rather flippant attitude add quite a bit of humor to to the story.

What Bothered Me:
There are a ton of parallels to the other Supernatural Battle series, which I now see are very deliberate. I read Vampire Towers and Werewolf Dens back-to-back and at the time it was a bit on the repetitive side, but having quite a bit of time lapse before reading Coven Caves means that it bothered me less.

Overall:
Kelly St. Clare writes great paranormal romance and First Ritual is exception. If you are a fan of fated mates and magical competitions, check out the Coven Caves series. However, everything will make more sense if you read Vampire Towers and Werewolf Dens first.

The Last Word:

I just finished Last Gift, the final book in the Coven Caves series, and I’m definitely a fan. I loved the way all the pieces sprinkled throughout the first two books came together in the end to wrap things up neatly while still leaving the door open to the Demon Peaks series.
