Theodosia has been a captive since the age of six when her mother the queen was killed in front of her by their conquerors. Ten years later, her people are still enslaved but she finally has the courage to act before it's too late.

What I Liked:
I noticed the care taken to build the world in which Ash Princess takes place. There was a slow delivery of details throughout that seemed to build toward the overwhelming feeling that Theodosia can no longer sit back and ignore the plight of her people.

What Bothered Me:
I’m a little unclear on what’s going on with the romance arc and whether it is a why choose romance or a love triangle.

Overall:
There are enough thematic similarities that if you enjoyed Throne of Glass, you may also like Ash Princess. However, Theodosia is more on the naive side and not the devious and quick-witted character that is Celaena Sardothien.

The Last Word:

I just finished the third book in the Ash Princess trilogy, Ember Queen. I think it’s a pretty good young adult fantasy series and it finishes strong. Ember Queen may have been my favorite of the three books. It is interesting to see how Theo grows as a person and a Queen. She truly isn’t the same person that is introduced in the beginning of Ash Princess.
