What I Liked:
I love a good slow burn so I appreciated that a wrench was thrown into the relationship arc just as things were heating up in the first book of the Sacred Stones series. Arwen and Kane being together seems inevitable but impossible at the same time and the tension is delicious.
What Bothered Me:
While we learn more about Kane’s past in a Promise of Peridot, his character doesn’t go through nearly as much development as Arwen’s. Arwen did need to work through some things before she was ready to be with Kane, but it was a bit frustrating that simple communication was all that was needed to get things back on track.
Overall:
I did enjoy A Promise of Peridot but it didn’t hook me as hard as A Dawn of Onyx. I still think most romantic fantasy readers should check out the series and I can’t wait to read the final book in the trilogy after it is released in October 2024.
