Kiela is a librarian that escapes civil unrest in the city while stealing/saving a few crates of spell books before they're burned. She returns to the small island where she was born and tries to make a new life for herself without getting arrested for using spells to try to help improve the dwindling conditions. A nosy and handsome neighbor makes hiding her secret even harder.

REVIEW
What I Liked:The Spellshop was such a cute, lighthearted fantasy read with a sweet romantic subplot. Honestly, I wish I had listened to the audio with my kids. I think they would have loved all the magical creatures and hilarious side characters.
What Bothered Me:There was nothing wrong with the escalation of conflict and resolution but it took some turns I wasn't expecting which I thought almost took some of the attention away from the main character Kiela.
Overall:When you're in the mood for a sweet and cozy fantasy standalone. There's nothing truly scary or explicit so feel free to share with your kids. It looks like The Enchanted Greenhouse coming out in July 2025 is set in the same world but picks up with a new set of characters.
