Violet is a lady widow at only 30 and has spent the past several years establishing the female only social club, Athena's Retreat, as a front for the safe space to conduct academic research for those that would be otherwise shunned. The secrets of the society threaten to come out after Violet is tasked with a special project from the crown that brings about vandalism and explosions and bring all too much attention to the club. Arthur is assigned to guard her until she finishes the project and while there is instant attraction, they both know nothing can ever come of it.

REVIEW

What I Like:I think it's fun to imagine what things might have been like if women had been allowed to explore scientific pursuits when societal expectations deemed it unacceptable. I enjoy a good bodyguard trope.

What Bothered Me:I found the pacing to be a bit slow for my tastes and I found the motivations of the villain revealed in the end to be a tad flimsy.

Overall:If you like Victorian Historical Romance and female characters that are uncommonly gifted in STEM, you should read A Lady's Formula for Love.
