What I Liked:
I am a huge fan of paranormal romance. The story that Ward sets up in the initial book of this series is intriguing. I think it’s fun to see what kind of nuances the author wants to include in their own take on vampires, etc. The balance was very good between telling the story of how the main characters, Beth and Wrath, get together, while introducing characters that are sure to explore love in their own books in the series.

What I Didn’t Really Like:
It is quite possibly due to the fact that this book was published in 2005, but there was some dialogue and colloquialisms that landed a little flat for me. I didn’t mind the music references because I was still able to recognize most of them, even if they were obviously dated. I am not a super huge fan of the names of the character in the Black Dagger Brotherhood, like Rhage, Zsadist, Phury, Vishous, and Tohrment. In general, I find changing the spelling of words to create proper nouns very distracting while I’m reading. My brain gets caught up and sends me the message that there is an error on the page, even though I know it’s intentional. I accept that it is the author’s choice on how to name their characters, but then why is Wrath spelled correctly?

Overall:
While this was not my favorite read, I will likely get around to reading the next book in the series at some point. I’m not so hooked that I feel the need to read it right away, but I wasn’t completely put off either.
