What I Liked:
The build-up of the suspense to the climax was brilliant. In the beginning, I questioned how the normal lives of primary school parents could possibly be entertaining and lead to anything remotely interesting. I was so very wrong. Liane Moriarty too the mundane and turned it into something utterly compelling.
What I Didn’t Really Like:
I myself have children around the same age as those in the book, so it struck a little too close to home in regards to the secret bullying that was happening. I thought the story lost a bit of its impact with the climax taking place relatively early. That could have been an intentional choice to allow the reader plenty of time to wind down from the height of the conflict.
Overall:
I literally gasped out loud when I came to the big reveal, I was so compelled by the story. I would say it still ends in a HEA and there is a bit of a romance that happens in the background, even if women’s fiction is not usually your cup of tea. I listened to this in audiobook form and the narration by Caroline Lee with an Australian accent definitely added to the story.
