Hadley has been smothered by her family's overprotective expectations ever since her sister was kidnapped as a child. As a teen, her brother's best friend, Calder, introduced her to mountain biking and climbing as a way to relieve the feeling of being. After he experienced his own trauma, even Calder pulled away and wouldn't accept her for who she really was. Hadley suffered for years in silence until her job as an EMT almost resulted…

What I Liked:
I am a sucker for the brother’s best friend trope, so Falling Embers caught my eye. It wasn’t the traditional situation because Hadley’s brother’s reaction to her relationship with Calder wasn’t the main source of conflict, but it’s nice when a story isn’t especially predictable.

Fair Warning:
Falling Embers is a very emotional read with many people doing and saying hurtful things to the FMC but the MMC tries to make up for it by being supportive when she needs him.

Overall:
Falling Embers hits a ton a good tropes including brother’s best friend; small town, second chance, single dad, and the MMC is a firefighter, so it will appeal to many romance lovers.

The Last Word:

I just finished the fifth book, Fractured Sky, where Shiloh finally gets her HEA. The Tattered & Torn series highlights the ability to heal and overcome traumatic events from the past and find the strength to face dangerous events in the present. Together the books explore how a single event impacts members of a family differently and it’s nice to see them all finally get their HEA in the end too.
